His research is related to Geomatic applications for survey and monitoring of environment and structures, digital techniques applied to historical cartography, Remote Sensing and GIS, Cultural Heritage surveying. He is author of about 230 scientific publications.
Giorgia Gatta Università di Bologna

University degree in Environmental and Territorial Engineering (2005) and PhD in Geodetic and Topographic Science (2010), at the University of Bologna.Currently, she is Research Assistant at DICAM (Department of Civil, Environmental and Material Engineering) of the University of Bologna, and she researches into digital elaboration of historical cartography.
Aurelio Muzzarelli Università di Bologna

Electronic Engineer. Phd. in “building and town planning engineering” at DAPT (Architecture and Town Planning Department) at Bologna University. Expert in Geographical Information Systems and WebGIS. Author of books and papers on GIS applications in urban and regional planning.
Maura Savini Università di Bologna

Associate professor of Architectural and Urban Composition near Dipartimento di ArchitetturaUniversity of Bologna. She was a of a number of architectural competitions and is the author of numerous projects and publications; to this day, she is working on relations and connections between theoretical constructs and design in manuals of architecture and she is bringing on researches about urban features of cities during the Enlightenment.
Diana Tura Archivio di Stato di Bologna, Ministero per i Beni e le Attività culturali

Graduated in 1979 in Modern Literature with a thesis in Medieval History with prof. Ovidio Capitani, she has been National Archivist in the National Archive of Bologna since 1984. She has been person in charge of the lecture room of the Archive since 1993, currently she teaches Diplomacy in the Archive, Paleography and Diplomacy School of the Archive, and she is in charge of teaching to University students and students of Bologna schools. In the last years, she has mostly worked on notarial, medieval and cadastral documents, publishing inventories and papers and participating in conferences and meetings.

Abstract

The plan, being project tool and representation at the same time, allows an understanding, by means of ancient cartography, of the ancient city as an entity with its own identity connotation, whose definition derives mainly from the clarity of the construction rule which permitted its realization. The present study analyzes the main theoretical and technical questions which concern the urban architecture of Bologna between the 18th and 19th centuries, by means of historical maps and in particular the Gregorian Cadastre.
